mammalogy
RESEARCH & COLLECTIONSThe collections in the Mammalogy Section go back to 1957, when some specimens were first donated to start a reference collection. Many of the early collections were acquired through personal donations and by research staff working with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The section currently houses about 5,000 mammal specimens. Research has recently been focussed on the distribution, diversity and ecology of bats.
