Ethnography Gallery

From Our village to their Town

The theme echoes the present imbalance in the country’s development endeavours. Most people trace their origins from villages to towns. It highlights how traditional life stands with modern life. Included is a life size village household, highlighting aspects of life in our present villages. A retail store bridges the village and town scenes, outlining an impression of a town in Zambia today. The theme urges the empowerment of villages to minimise the high rate of urbanisation experienced in Zambia today. The last section describes the traditional rituals that one passes through from birth to death. Exhibits include exhibits a variety of cultural objects highlighting various aspects of traditional life from the past to the present, including basketry, pottery, agricultural implements and belief systems.
